2. Holbox

Holbox, which means "black hole" in Maya, is a genuine tropical paradise. This small, charming, laid back island offers unique gastronomy, adventure and natural beauty. To get there, make your way to the port of Chiquilá and then take a boat to the island.

Tip: Visit Holbox during Whale Shark season, which begins in May, and swim with the biggest fish in the ocean.

3. Merida

One of the most beautiful cities in Mexico, Mérida is a great place for history buffs, who will enjoy walking the downtown streets, spotting landmarks or taking a buggy ride down Paseo de Montejo. This is an "all in one"destination because of its archaeological sites, parks, ecotourism, food, unique shops, entertainment and adventure. Aka Cuzamil or La Isla de las Golondrinas (named in honor of the Mayan goddess Ixchel) the island is recognized as a world class scuba diving destination.
