The Riviera Maya Jazz Festival is ten years old and this year locals and visitors will delight in the presence of musical greats Nortec, Pete Escovedo, Victor Wooten, Poncho Sanchez, Joe d'Etienne Big Band, the Wayne Shorter Quartet, John Scofield, Level 42 and Aguamala. This event takes place in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, the bohemian beach town of Playa del Carmen.
The festival lasts three days and begins each evening at 7 p.m. During the day you can enjoy the white sand beaches and aqua blue waters of Cancun and Playa del Carmen or rent a car and drive to the town of Tulum, about 45 minutes south of Playa del Carmen to check out the archaeological zone.
Most concerts will end after 11 p.m. which is the perfect time to continue the party by taking advantage of Playa's great nightlife. On 12th Street from 10th Avenue to the beach you will find many bars and clubs. Try Coco Bongo, a large nightclub known for its exciting shows.
The Riviera Maya Jazz Festival is considered one of the ten best musical festivals in the world and this edition includes musicians of international recognition. See the schedule below.
TIP: Bring your beach chair or blanket, a sweater, and some wine or beer to the festival.
It's not necessary to be a music expert, just go with an open mind and heart and enjoy this free outdoor concert while sharing positive energy with hundreds of others in cosmopolitan Playa del Carmen.
